SPACERS

The spacer shown in the two Standard Spacer photos is normally fitted to all Delco Style Starters on Perkins Engines.
Ensure that if your original installation had one, and that you fit it with your replacement starter.

Failing to fit the spacer will cause the starter to remain engaged into the flywheel ring gear.
This will seriously damage the starter.

PLEASE NOTE
If your existing DELCO starter spacer looks like the one indicated by the red arrows in the Non-Standard Spacer photo above (with the recessed cut out area for the nose cone ribs).

There are two similar looking spacers used, both shown above. The one marked #2 WILL WORK and can be used with the Newer Delco Style Starters we offer.

The one marked #1 WILL NOT WORK on the newer Delco style starters. The difference being the locating register highlighted in white is of a different thickness. The thicker one, #1 will not fit the nose of the New Starter.

We do offer a replacement upgraded spacer to replace the #1 as shown in the image above fitted to a starter. That spacer is $168.00.

Clockwise & Counter Clockwise Starter Motor Identification

Left Hand Engine Rotation

This is the most common engine rotation found on today's marine engines. Same rotation as automotive engines. Use these drawings to determine the correct starter rotation needed. In cases where the starter is mounted on opposite side of flywheel, rear mounted (above the transmission) starter rotation will be opposite to what is shown. This is the same for the engine drawing below.

Right Hand Engine Rotation

This is not very common on today's marine engines. This is the opposite rotation of automotive engines. Primarily used on some older 6.354 Perkins engines, Detroit Diesels and gas engines. Frequently used on starboard side.
